Jan. 6 hearings

It is indeed a sad fate of the American public to go through the innuendos and lies put out by the Jan. 6 Committee panel TV mini series. It is equally sad to see that politics in our nation has degenerated to a level of mockery and deceit.

The committee’s hearings were one-sided right from the beginning to brainwash those who watched them. Witnesses (like Cassidy Hutchinson, Matt Pottinger) came out of the woodwork to dramatize the hearing. Shame on them for their bid to win a few minutes of TV fame as opposed to seeking the truth.

This hearing, the brainchild of our corrupt and dishonest speaker of the House is another effort (like the Mueller investigation and other impeach “Trump” movements) in squandering taxpayer dollars.

It has not succeeded in swaying the public’s mind, proved nothing nor has come up with any sane recommendations to prevent events like this in the future.

It is destined to die a slow death with the passage of time.

— Pichai Gopal, Braintree

Another word for recession

My poor old Mama, after putting in her chompers, bellowed at me, “Son, if you can’t dazzle them with truth, baffle ’em with bull.” Only Mama, a stickler for proper vocabulary, didn’t mince that last word. Now then, we come to the new definition of “recession” because, well, we are elite wordsmiths and awfully, awfully smart, and we know after almost two years of the Biden show that Democrats will swallow almost all the swill that the ventriloquist can put into Joe’s mouth. After all, it’s only politics don’cha know, the sleight of tongue art form.

Red Sox season

Thank God football season is coming soon because the baseball season is over. Chaim Bloom and the owners of the Red Sox should be ashamed of charging top dollars for a Triple A team that they have fielded out here for the 2022 season. John Henry has been at best an absentee owner just like the Jacobs family, the owners of the Bruins. It’s obvious that John Henry gives a damn more about the Rauch race team, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Liverpool soccer team and not the Red Sox. Do us all a favor John Henry and sell the team to someone.

Surprise bonus

So, the state took in $ 2.5 billion more than expected? And in a COVID year? Rather than waste the taxpayers’ money for postage and mailing out checks why doesn’t the governor and our Legislature lop off that ¼ % from the sales tax? Easy peasy. Just sayin’.

— Jack Zaccardi, East Boston

Pronouns

I just received an email from my state senator, Jason Lewis. He closed his email with his pronouns — “He / him / his.” I recently entered the rest room in a Burlington restaurant where the sign on the door read “Men / his / they / them.” I like the signs on the rest room doors of some seafood restaurants of old — “Buoys” and “Gulls.” I always knew which door to enter.
